The Last Years

If I never again encounter a period of life such as this one, I will carry the last two and a half years with me the way trees carry their years — surrounding their strongest part, allowing the ones that follow to supersede it, but always always, carrying it there, somewhere, below, hidden in plain sight, constantly being followed by new years. And so, everything that follows carries a part of it with it, always there, somewhere.
